I really like my rex pro. However, I am on my third unit. The first two
screens have been cracked. Yes, I keep it in a case. No, I don't stick it
in my back pocke. I just think the unit is too fragile. I love the fact
that I can access a contact or my schedule very quickly. However, If
Xircom is going to charge me $79.00 for a replacement, I think it is time to
look for a new PDA.
Any suggestions.

Just read your interesting comments re subject. I use the original rex and on-the-go data entry is really a
plus--but, I want a feature that allows me to do a random search such as the casio boss.
I use many memo items and can find anything in the boss quickly. Too bad rex
can't do the same. I would buy one in a minute if it could random search.
bye.

Having used the RexPro for several months I generally agree with your
detailed comments. Having used Sidekick for several years, I'm now glad to have
detailed information with me where ever I go.
The only problem is that the screen has broken (it was in my top pocket when I
was operating machinery - next time I'll get a protective case) and I can't find
a business that will repair it.
If anybody can help, please send details to [email protected]

It would be adviseable for a developer to design a portable key board similar
to "Royal DaVinci" palm so that data entry could be easier. It
would sell
quick and solve the slow data entry process. I have a question, obviously
you can write to it but can you delete a note. Second does anyone have a
scratch pad or grafitti type software that can be down loaded, software that
allows you to scribble or draw. Are any of the new digital photo printers
that print directly from the camera's flash card or pcmcia card compatible to
print from Rex-Pro, i.e. the new HP.
Thank you

Julie,
I just finished reading your Rex Pro review, and wanted to let you know
that the Leather case that ships with the unit is meant to accommodate
the Rex Pro in the side with the four leather corners, not the elastic
strap side.
I just wanted to let you know that, as the review is somewhat
misleading...
Thanks!

I found your site from the Franklin site after I registered my Rex Pro.
I've just purchased a Rex Pro this weekend after my 13 month old Rex-3 was
destroyed.
I travel extensively and need to have access to contacts phone numbers and
addresses. I travel with a lap-top computer but it's inconvenient to fire it
up when I need to access a quick address, phone or fax number. This is
especially true while standing in a phone booth or while driving. The Rex is
ideally suited as a shirt pocket address book.
The Rex Pro definitely holds more information than the 3. I can now include
additional information such as alternate and home addresses as well as
e-mail information for contacts.
Another great feature is the ability to import contacts directly from ACT!
The old software with Rex-3 forced me to import the ACT! files into the
Starfish TrueSync format.
I've played a bit with the new data entry on the Pro and it does not appear
to be a function that I will use.
The leather cover appears to be thicker and beefier (perhaps tha't good).
The price is too high. Perhaps it will come down. The retailers only stock
the model with the docking station which I don't need. But I was forced to
purchase it anyway. I called Franklin to see if I could purchase one without
the DS. The answer was yes but they stated a deliverey of 2-3 weeks!
If your looking for a way to keep voluminous data at your finger tips and
don't want the bulk or weight of a big PDA then the Rex is the way to go.
Just be mindful of where you put it!

Dear Julie,
I carried the REX Pro around in my front pocket in the supplied case and the
screen broke within days of purchase.
Your hint about putting into a PC Card case might have saved the device.
I think it is too fragile.
Also, I miss the FIND features of the PALM.
The form factor is ideal, however.

Q: My city is not listed in the list of time zones. Can I add mine?
A: Starfish has developed a utility called TZEXPLORER.EXE that can be used to
add a city that does not appear in the time zones list. It can also be used to
correct the problem when events appear at the wrong time on the REX.
Hope this helps, Geoff Shortland.
Another rex con - on WinNT you can only use the PC software as
administrator. For the REX and REXPro
Thanks for your review,
