the JetPac Review |

I had several problems with the JetPac's metal belt clip (a very poor
design). I lost it on a bus once since the JetPac tipped sideways and the
Palm fell out onto the seat. Fortunately it was returned to me by someone
who found it, and read my "-IF FOUND CALL-" in the address book, which Palm
recommends.
I removed the metal belt clip (pry it with a screwdriver and it will break
off) and Super Glued a cellphone belt clip (http://www.theclip.com/) to it.
But several weeks later the new belt clip broke off the JetPac and the
JetPac fell several feet onto cement, and both my Palm IIIxe and its stylus
fell out. Fortunately there doesn't seem to be much damage to the Palm
other than one of the corner screws coming out.
I re-glued the belt clip to the JetPac with epoxy 2 days ago, and the clip
just broke off again! Fortunately I was sitting down at the time, so the
JetPac didn't fall.
DON'T GLUE A BELT CLIP TO THE JETPAC!
I really like having my Palm with me at all times, and being able to easily
remove my Palm from the JetPac, but unless I find a more secure way to
attach the JetPac to my belt, I'm going to look for a different case.

This device is a very wonderful idea and at a great price. I have been
very disappointed with the clip and that it so open.
Wish I read this review before I bought the JetPac though. It's is
listed as $19.95 but it has cost me over $119.95. Very soon after I
bought the JetPac, I walked in the house, dropped my shoulder bag on
the floor and the JetPac with my very new PalmIII fell off the other
side of me on to the floor, shattering the screen.
I did not use the JetPac for several months and then took the risk again
the other day. That same day, walking through the parking lot, it fell
off again. Luckily no damage. Thinking it my have been my fault, I
continued to wear it. Three days later after crouching on the floor
looking for some dropped parts, it again fell off.
Well, that JetPac is no longer in use. I personally would not recommend
this product. The risk is too great.

I have used the JetPac with a Palm Pilot Pro with no problems. When I
got
my IIIx, I didn't feel comfortable using it because the IIIx felt loose in
the JetPac. It felt like it could easily fall out.

I have had a JetPac for one month and was happy with it...until the belt
clip started loosening. I have e-mailed JP Solutions to no avail, and in
fact, have had to replace my Palm IIIx twice (under warranty, but still...)
I will be returning to a leather belt case with a proper clip as soon as my
third IIIx comes in. It's a GREAT idea, but the crappy belt clip gives it a
very low score for execution.

Thanks for a good site. I might amend them--the belt clip on this thing
is loosening slightly as I use it. I seem to have read about someone
modifying it by drilling out the old one, and glueing on a cool little
cell phone clip, but can't relocate the info. Tough to find a good
holster case. When this one dies I'm making a leather one via the palm
pilot crafts page.
thanks,

Pretty good case. The metal belt clip, however, has opened slightly
with use. I will probably drill out the metal clip and use JB weld to
attach a better clip, ie cell phone or similar. Thanks for the review.

I had one for a few months before changing Palms and cases thanks to a
mishap. I'm an anesthesiology resident and we constantly are crouching
down to get something from the floor, or to empty containers. Our little
environment behind the drapes are filled with IV lines, EKG cables, etc.
I found that it's not hard for the Jetpac to get caught on a cable or
line while I was crouching one day. In fact I found that it wasn't hard
for said cable to pop the Palm out of the Jetpac. Furthermore the Palm
found the OR floor *was* quite hard. Hence, the new IIIx and the new
Rhinoskin Ti-slider. Not a suitable case for my application although I
did like the ease of access and the ability to keep it on my hip for
frequent use unlike some zippered cases. Nonetheless, the wrong case for
me.

Just read your review of the JetPac. I've had one for several months
and
absolutly love it. It is in my opinion the best solution I could
find. I
have 3 small complaints:
1) The little plastic tabs that hook into the indentations at the bottom of
my pilot broke off. Not a huge issue, as I rarely do jumping jacks.
2) It doesn't offer full protection in the event of a drop. Dropped my
Pilot (Pro) last week while in the JetPac. It landed squarely on the
stylus, forcing the case apart, and the stylus to actually be lodged in the
case. My pilot was grounded, so to speak. I can only think if I had
something more protective, my lil buddy would still be working.
On the bright side, my Pilot V gets here Wednesday. :)
3) It doesn't hold the Pilot V.

Everything is great except for the belt clip. When sitting, the bottom of the
pac sometimes hits and pushes the clip off the belt, leaving jet-pac & pilot
behind. Clip should have curl on bottom or thru- belt type clip, for the on
the move working people, who carry them.

Are you still using your JetPac? After about 4 months of daily use, both of
the plastic tabs that hold the Pilot in the case broke off. I've had no luck
contacting JP Solutions.
Just wondering if others are having similar problems after continuous use.
Thanks!

(Note from js: No, I do not have the JetPac anymore...)

I've had my jetpac for a couple of months now and I really like it. The hard,
enclosing case makes me feel better when I toss my pilot in my bag. Its very
easy to remove from the case for use and syncing and appears easier to remove
than the leather folding cases.
One note on the cosmetic damage that was noted, in the instructions it is
mentioned as occuring. When I got my Jet Pac, I was very conscious about
checking my Pilot to see where this cosmetic damage was and never noticed any.
Then I realized that since I tape my business card to the back of my Pilot, it
was getting the mark from the belt clip rivet and not my Pilot.

I purchased a JetPac about a week ago and until recently had no
complaints. The case was durable, convienient for removing the PalmIII
(I could do it with one hand no problem), and cool looking.
However, near the end of the first week, I noticed a cosmetic
scratch on my PalmIII. Apparently, the rivet that holds the belt clip in
place rubbed against the back of my PalmIII, causing a very noticable
scratch down the back of my PalmIII. I expressed my dissatisfaction with
their product @ their webpage (www.jpsolutions.com)
and am awaiting a
reply. I suppose I'm going to send the JetPac back (thank goodness for
30-day warranty thingies).
Well, that's my $.02.

I found the Jetpac extremely comfortable to use and extremely strong
and secure to keep MY PILOT in. I have had no trouble getting the
PalmPilot Pro in or out of the case, nor did I notice any increase in
dust on the screen as others mentioned. I love the rigidify and the
secure feel of the hard plastic, it's like a vault!!!. I do not
carry the pilot on my belt, however having experienced my pilot
frequently sliding out of the old original leather case (and banging
around in my briefcase), I am relieved about the secure fit of the
Jetpac case. I do wonder why the designers left the top of the pilot
exposed..????....but I understand why the opening on the bottom (ease
of removal with an upward push!!)
On the wish list side: removable belt clip for a flat profile.
All in all, I love it and will definitely recommend it.

I've had my JetPac for a while now (for my Pilot Professional), and have
grown to like it very much. The hard plastic case gives some real
protection to the unit, and puts my mind at rest that the PP is not
going to get crushed if I lean up against someting or fall while wearing
it.
I find that it is very easy to release the Pilot from the case with one
hand (I use my middle finger to 'pop' the Pilot up from the bottom to
release the catch, then just lift it out wit the same hand) and when I
am done it locks back into place simply by dropping it back into the
case. This means that access to the Pilot takes less than a second, much
faster than most cases I've tried. The exposed up/down bottons at the
bottom mean I can silence alarms and such without even having to take
the Pilot out, and speaking of alarms, the case did not seam to muffle
or reduce the volume of the alarm significantly.
The belt clip holds on fairly tight, so I have not had any problems with
the case falling off of my belt.
I do agree with the reviewer that my screen DOES seam to get a little
more dust (lint?) on it than with other cases, since the unit is not
fully enclosed.
All in all, I like it and will be buying a second one for my wife's
Pilot.
