Let's face it. The stock plastic cover that comes with the Handspring PDAs is just not for everyone. I don't like the fact that it is loose when not in use. And it has a host of other problems.

But if a loose screen cover bugs you, check out the Smart Cover from InnoPocket. This ice colored, plastic wrap around, screen cover fits snugly on the Visor, DX, and Platinum, (but not the Prism), the flip cover will not come off!

The flip lid neatly snaps into place when you need to cover the screen, and opens completely swinging to the back side when in use. (The double hinged lid is very similar in design to the flip lid of the Palm M100 and FlipCover from Design Ovation.) Since the Smart Cover completely wraps around the Visor, it "latches" to itself to secure the lid when closed.

The packaging for the Smart Cover has a cardboard mock Visor inside the unit and it gives the appearance that one could see what is on the screen while the lid is closed. But no matter what font I set my Visor to, I was not able to read the screen. The mock PDA is right up against the lid, while in reality, the Visor's screen is about 0.10 inches away from the lid when closed. This really isn't a big deal since it is very easy to open and close the lid. But I just wanted to mention it in case someone thought that they would be able to see through it.

There are always trade-offs when getting any accessory, like a case, cover, or stylus. And the Smart Cover is no exception. For example, I am writing this review on my Visor using the Stowaway keyboard, while the Smart Cover is laying on the desk instead of being on my Visor. The reason for this is that the cover wraps around the Visor blocking the use of the HotSync port. (So it has to be removed to HotSync as well).

The Smart Cover also covers the expansion slot area, so if you need to use a Springboard Module, you have to install it before you put the cover on. This isn't a problem, unless your Springboard Module is one of the oversized modules. Only the modules that are the smaller standard shape will fit under the Smart Cover.

Overall, I like the Smart Cover. Although it has to be removed for anything that requires access to the HotSync port or the expansion slot, it's thin snug design makes it attractive. It adds almost nothing to the weight and size of the Visor, and folding the cover completely back makes it comfortable while in use.
